Even in spring and summer, I’m a big fan of neutral tones in my wardrobe. I don’t go too far outside of my lavenders and creams. But in my makeup, I love to add pinks and purples to my every day looks for a fresher face. I talked about purples last week, this week I’m talking a little pinker (not a great look for those with a natural flush).

Stick to a matte, lighter base to make your colors pop.

When I want a matte look, I start with Too Faced’s Hangover RX primer. It gives a really clean, moisturizing finish to my skin before I apply makeup – so I don’t really have to do anything crazy with concealers.

It Cosmetics make pretty much all of my favorite concealers and CC creams. The products I use every day are their Bye-Bye Under Eye concealer in fair and their Bye-Bye Breakouts all over concealer. I have chronic dark under eye shadows because of my chronic illness and deep set eyes, and the under eye concealer in illumination is my favorite product for helping combat those bags. Their face concealer is a pretty full coverage, but I haven’t seen a reduction in acne that they promote.

When I want to keep the tint of my skin pretty light but still want full coverage, I blend my concealers with an all over sweep of DR. Jart’s BB Beauty Balm  and for pinker, warmer looks I’ll add in Make Up For Ever HD Perfector (lighter weight than their foundations). The combo gives a nice full coverage without looking cakey.

Create a blend with different shades of pink.

00000PORTRAIT_00000_BURST20190507135557344.jpgSimilar to purple, using the wrong shade of pink can make you look less polished and more tired. To help combat that, I used a nice palette by Clinique that was a limited release of their All About Shadows Quad Palette but my main suggestion is use a brown/pink in your crease and stray away from more purple there. It’s just an illusion, but it can make you look tired.

With pink, use it all over the lid first. Then add your browner shade along the crease. Use your purple sparingly and sweep it toward the crease for a bigger effect. I use a smudge brush with my lightest pink in the corner of my eye to brighten it up.

Use complimenting shades on your lashes and brows.

When I create a spring look, I leave the blackest color to my lashes, and don’t use anything too harsh or clumpy to brighten up the look and keep it fresh. I like to use Smashbox Super Fan Mascara when I want length and not as much volume. I also soften the look by going with Mauve Double Take Eyeliner by Tarte. This was also a limited edition release, but Sephora Collection makes a really similar color in their liquid eyeliner and I am always impressed with the quality of their products. For final touches, I add a chocolate brown along my brows for a complete look. My eyebrow pencil is old and unbranded here, but use a pencil and then a wand to blend it into your brow line.

Add pink to the cheeks and the lips.

LORAC blushes are hands down my favorite for matte looks. They have a really high pigment to them and are a reasonable price. This one has lasted me over a year. Their Buildable Blush in Chroma has a kind of cult following, and for good reason. I use it for all of my fresher looks.
Smashbox makes my favorite liquid matte lipstick – and that is saying a lot because I feel like I’ve tried ALL of them at this point. My favorite is Strawberry Jam for every day wear. It’s a great spring color and wears all day. It’s great combo for poppy looks or more wild night looks with blues or sparkles. (That look coming to you soon)
And there you go! A fresh, spring friendly look that’s super easy to recreate. How do you like it? Share your pictures using it with #myinvalidlife or send them to me!
